Originally from Kentucky, Matt fell in love with wine by working in vineyards during his summers as a college student. He solidified his choice while working the sunrise shift during harvest, where he watched the sun rise over the Middle Reach of the Russian River Valley each morning while doing punch downs. Matt found the process of winemaking the perfect marriage of art, science, and pleasure, and it has since been his main pursuit. He earned a BA in Philosophy from Hanover College and a Masters in Viticulture and Enology from Fresno State, where his research on grape and wine tannins was included in the Oxford Companion to Wine.
His extensive experience includes some of the greats in the wine industry, such as Williams Selyem and Kosta Browne, where he developed his passion for Pinot Noir. As winemaker for Siduri, Matt is living out his dream of crafting single-vineyard and appellation expressions of Pinot Noir from esteemed vineyard sites along the West Coast, stretching from Santa Barbara, California to Willamette Valley, Oregon.
