Appellation Russian River Valley Site 100% Kilcullen Vineyard (Pommard) Growing Season The 2020 growing season began with rainfall well below average, and colder nighttime temperatures delayed budbreak. Weather warmed up after bloom, with temperatures slightly higher than normal through the rest of the season. Tiny yields increased the rate of harvest in August and into September. Harvest Date | Brix August 20 | 23.0˚ average Varietal Composition 100% Pinot Noir Fermentation Tank fermented with native yeast and 25% whole cluster. Native malolactic fermentation in barrel Aging As traditionally practiced in Burgundy, we use an anaerobic approach with our Pinot Noir to preserve freshness. It was aged sur lies with monthly bâtonnage and spent 18 months in 45% new French barrels (Taransaud). The wine was then lightly fined with egg white and bottled without filtration in June 2022.

Description

David and Carla Ramey founded the winery in 1996 and forged a new California winemaking style that paired old-world techniques with some of the most premier fruit of Sonoma and Napa. The Ramey family has long excelled at collaborating with other multigenerational winegrowers to make single vineyard wines as well as blends that showcase the defining characteristics of their sites. The second generation, Claire and Alan Ramey, began working at the winery in 2013 and have been cross-trained in all aspects of winery operations. In 2021, Claire and Alan became co-presidents of Ramey Wine Cellars.
